What we collect
When you create an account we receive your email address, display name and username. You may add a profile photo, bio, location and website, and you add the content you publish. If you buy a membership or advertising package, our payment provider collects the billing details on its own checkout page. For business and organization applications we also collect the entity details, authorized representative details and supporting documents needed to review the application.
Information collected automatically
We record the technical information needed to run and secure the app: device and browser type, approximate region derived from your connection, pages and features you open, and actions such as likes, saves, follows, reports and acceptances. This is used to keep the service working and to detect abuse.
Why we collect it
To operate your account and show your content to the community you joined; to power search, ingredient discovery and translation; to run contests, memberships and advertising; to verify businesses and organizations before they are approved; to moderate content and enforce our policies; to send service notices and, if you opt in, optional team messages; to prevent fraud and abuse; and to meet legal, tax and accounting obligations. We collect only what those purposes need.
What is public and what is private
Public: your username, display name, avatar, bio, your published posts, comments and contest entries, approved business profiles and approved organization profiles and campaigns, and your acceptance of the current policies. Private: your email address, your notification and block settings, your reports, your appeals, your payment references, your moderation record and, for organizations, the private dashboard, documents and donor records. A profile only becomes publicly viewable once you are eligible — a Premium membership or a genuinely published food post — and never while you have chosen a private profile.
Payments and donation information
Paid features are processed by our payment provider through Base44 Payments (Wix Payments). Card numbers and bank details are entered on the payment provider's own pages and are never received or stored by Outta What?. We keep only the transaction reference, product, amount, currency, status and dates needed for fulfilment, refunds, accounting and tax. Bank credentials are never stored in ordinary application records, and an organization's payout destination is set through the provider's own onboarding.
Organization and donor information
Organization applications include registration details and supporting documents. An employer identification number (EIN) and bank payout details are never published and are visible only to authorized reviewers and the organization's own administrators. Donor names, email addresses and messages are visible to the organization that received the gift and to authorized platform reviewers, never to other members. Where a donor chooses to give anonymously, the public display omits their name.
How we share information
We share what is necessary with the vendors who run the app on our behalf: hosting and database infrastructure, media storage, email delivery, payment processing, translation and AI-assisted cooking suggestions, and analytics. They act on our instructions and may not use your information for their own marketing. We do not sell personal information and we do not use private member information for advertising. We disclose data to authorities only where the law requires it or where needed to protect people from harm.
Moderation records
Reports you file, reports filed about your content, the appeals you submit and the decisions our reviewers make are stored so we can act consistently and answer appeals. Reviewers can see the reported content and the account it belongs to. Reporters are not identified to the person reported. Ordinary members cannot see moderation records.
Policy acceptance records
When you accept a policy we record the policy, its version, the date and time, the account type and the point in the app where you accepted it. This record is what lets us show what you agreed to and when.
Retention and deletion
Your profile, posts, comments, likes, saves, follows, contest records and messages are deleted when you delete your account. Records we must keep for tax, payment reconciliation or legal claims — purchases, donations, advertising and membership records — are retained without the details we no longer need. Deletion completes within 30 days and backups are overwritten on their normal cycle. We do not keep personal information indefinitely without a lawful reason.
Your choices and rights
You can edit your profile and notification settings, make your profile private, delete individual posts, or delete your whole account from Account Management. Depending on where you live you may also ask for a copy of your information, correction of it, or restriction of certain processing. Email us from the address on the account and we will respond within the period the law allows.
Children and vulnerable members
Outta What? is for people aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If we learn that an account belongs to a child under 13 it is closed and the associated information is deleted. Where local law sets a higher digital age of consent, that higher age applies.
Security and international transfers
We use access controls, scoped credentials and encrypted transport, and we limit who can see moderation and financial records. No service can promise perfect security, so choose a strong password and tell us immediately if you suspect your account has been compromised. Our providers may process information in other countries; where information leaves your region we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
Changes and contact
We post any change here, update the version and dates, and tell you in the app when a change materially affects your rights. Privacy questions and data requests go to support@outtawhat.com.
